The Ghost is the Covenant's standard reconnaissance and rapid attack vehicle, it is also the standard ground vehicle that is almost equivalent to the UNSC's Mongoose. The Ghost can be driven only by one pilot such as the Banshee. It is equipped with two of what are now accepted as the standard light vehicle mounted weapons: a directed energy weapon capable of projecting a bolt of super-heated plasma in the 100-250kW range. While the vehicle is fast and maeuverable, the driver is virtually unprotected. The Ghost cannot fire while using the secondary speed boost.

The Ghost is really flexible and fast in Halo: Combat Evolved but it is less agile and the pilot might fall if he receives many shots. Because it is hovering rather than actually having a friction with the land, it is easier to control than the Warthog.

In combat the ghost is usually outclassed by a warthog given its inability to avoid the warthog gunner effectively. Given that the speeds of the ghost and warthog are simlar even when the ghost is in speed boost outrunning the warthog becomes difficult. As such in multiplayer settings ghosts work most effectively when accompanied by a Wraith or Warthog
