[edit] Plot

Warning: This article may contain plot spoilers.

The game starts off with the trial of Commander Thel 'Vadamee, who is punished by becoming the Arbiter and he is branded with the Mark of Shame by Covenant Chieftan Tartarus. This was in retaliation for his failure during the events of Halo: Combat Evolved, when he failed to protect the Sacred Ring.

The perspective then shifts to Cairo Station on Earth, where 117 is given the new MJOLNIR Mark VI armor from the Master Gunnery Sergeant. He then attends an Award Ceremony in which he is hailed as a war hero for his actions in Halo: Combat Evolved. The ceremony is then interrupted by Cortana, who informs them that there are 15 Covenant ships outside the "kill zone", starting the Covenant Siege of Earth. The UNSC then take measures to defend against the Covenant. 117 sends the bomb the Covenant brought back into space, then returns to a UNSC vessel and they all fly to New Mombasa in an attempt to fight off the invading High Prophet of Regret and his armies. After being repelled by the UNSC, the Prophet escapes New Mombasa with Lieutenant Commander Miranda Keyes in hot pursuit. The Prophet's departure leaves New Mombasa's Space Elevator in scraps.

The perspective then shifts back to Thel 'Vadamee, who has been given the title of Arbiter (As well as the inevitable death with it). He accepts an impossible task given by the Prophets in an attempt to be redeemed for his failures. He is to assassinate a Heretic Leader, who has become upset with the Covenant following the destruction of Installation 04. The Arbiter arrives to a gas mine and battles through them (Along with the Flood) before finally facing the Leader. He states his belief that the Great Journey is a lie, but before Arbiter can ask questions, the battle begins. The Leader is killed, and Tartarus comes to extract the Arbiter as well as a Monitor known as 343 Guilty Spark. Tartarus takes Guilty Spark away before Arbiter can find anything out from it.

Back to 117, Keyes' ship follows the Prophet's. The Prophet, unknowing about being followed, leads the humans to another Halo Ring, much to the surprise of the humans. Keyes then orders the Marines to land on Installation 05 and capture Regret, as well as stop the firing of the Halos. It is discovered that the Prophet intends to activate the Ring himself, an act that calls for immediate assassination, which 117 achieves. He attempts to escape, but the Covenant begin to glass the area in an effort to kill him. After jumping into a nearby lake, Master Chief is incapacitated by the tentacles of Gravemind, a very intelligent Flood creature, and is dragged to the depths.

Back to the Arbiter. He is onboard the Covenant ship High Charity, which is orbiting around the Ring. The Covenant leaders proclaim the death of Regret as a failure on the Elites' part, and assigns the Brutes as the protectors of the Prophets instead. The Arbiter is then given the task to find a Sacred Icon from the Library. Fighting through dozens of Flood and Sentinels on the surface of Installation 05, he eventually captures the Activation Index as well as Johnson and Keyes, who had just located the Index justr as he had (They were there with the purpose of capturing it so that the Covenant could not activate the Halos with it). However. before he can take the Index, Tartarus once again appears and reveals that Covenant leaders intended for the Arbiter's death to remove the Elites from power. With that said, Tartarus knocked Arbiter down a hole in the Index chamber.

The Chief awakens and finds himself captured by the Gravemind. The Arbiter then plunges from above and is saved from death by Graveminds's tentacles. Small world, eh? The Prophet of Regret has also been assimilated into the Gravemind. 2401 Penitent Tangent, the Monitor of Installation 05, is introduced as well. Arbiter is questioned by Gravemind and Chief about his faith, as they inform him that the Halos do not save life, but destroy it. This causes Arbiter to join forces with Master Chief. The Gravemind then sends Arbiter to Installation 05's Control Room to prevent the Halo from being fired and Master Chief is sent to High Charity to recover the Index.

117 interrupts a meeting held by the Prophet of Truth, who proceeds to flee to the Forerunner ship Dreadnought. 117 chases him and sees the brutal battle between the Elites and Brutes along the way. The Flood then appear and, using the UNSC ship In Amber Clad, steer themselves into High Charity. Just as Chief is about to encounter Truth, he sees the Prophet of Mercy being infected by the Flood. Truth then announces his plan to go to Earth and "Finish what [the Hierarchs] started". 117 then fights his way on to the Forerunner Dreadnought by getting on to it with an energy conduit.

Arbiter is teleported close to the Halo's Conrol Room, where he finds corpses of Elites strewn about the immediate area. With the help of several other Elites, he meets up with Rtas 'Vadumee, the Elite leader. Together, they battle their way to a Scarab controlled by Sergeant Major Johnson. Johnson allies his forces with the Elites and they all manage to break down the Control Room doors, where Arbiter confronts Tartarus. They hear the fact that the Halos destroy from 343 Guilty Spark, but Tartarus ignores Guilty Spark and has Lieutenant Commander Keyes, who he captured, activate the Halos. However, after a long fight, the Arbiter manages to take down Tartarus. With his defeat, Keyes quickly stops the Halos from firing and puts them into standby.

Master Chief is then shown onboard the Dreadnought, which is arriving towards Earth. He quickly contacts UNSC Admiral Terence Hood that he is onboard. Upon being questioned about what he is doing, Chief responds: "Sir, finshing this fight".

After the credits, a scene plays in which Gravemind expresses his delight at his freedom. High Charity is seen with thousands of Flood spores floating around it, and Cortana appears on a pedestal in the middle of the room Gravemind is in. He tells her that she is to answer every question he has in mind, to which she reluctantly consents to. The scene then fades to darkness.

[edit] Halo 2 for Windows Vista

The Windows version of Halo 2 was released on May 31, 2007 after a delay. The game is only playable on the Windows Vista operating system, cutting down the in game community significantly. At one time, there is rarely over a max of 500 player online. However, Halo 1, which is available for Windows 2000 and above, still has a relatively large community, with over three times the amount of people online as Halo 2.

Halo 2 utilizes the Games For Windows Live in game system, which incorporates the Xbox Live gamertags. This means that when playing online, you must sign into your Xbox Live gamertag. Having Xbox Live gold is not necessary to play online, but it is if you would like to host a game.

Additions added to Halo 2 Vista
  • Halo 2 Vista has in game achievements.
  • Halo 2 Vista has a reworked graphical system, offering a higher aspect ratio, and higher quality textured.
  • The game has two additional multiplayer maps: District, and Uplift.
  • A Map Editing kit has been added that allows users to create custom maps.

[edit] Interesting Notes

  • In the Halo 2 Uprising against the Prophets, the Brutes, Jackals, and Drones ally themselves with the Prophets, while the Elites, Hunters, and Grunts are on the other side of the conflict. In Halo 3 we see that the sides are not as clear cut as it would seem in Halo 2.
