Joining the Master Chief and the familiar Marines are the ODST. Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, as featured in the book; Halo: The Fall of Reach. The ODST are futuristic paratroopers that are tougher and more accurate than regular marines. They normally enter a battle "feet first" as they call it. They get in a special "drop pod" that is shot from another aircraft or ship from space and slam into the earth below, feet first. Sometimes the soldiers do not survive the impact or going through a planet's atmosphere, but since the group is only made up of volunteers, they are fully aware of the risks.
